Interaction 03

A headline you read by clearing the numbers off it.

The landing page of this site, taken apart. The demo below is the real thing at a small-laptop width — same code, same field, same easter egg.

01 · Where it came from

I saw a site whose headline was made from stars. The type and the background were built from the same thing, instead of being separate layers.

I wanted to explore that idea with something more personal: numbers. Since I have been designing with numbers for years, I built the headline from thousands of digits arranged into the shape of the sentence.

02 · How the interaction works

The headline starts hidden behind a field of moving numbers. As you move your pointer across the page, the numbers move out of the way and reveal the words underneath.

The effect is designed to feel like uncovering the headline rather than simply fading it in. The interaction also adapts to touch devices, where pressing and dragging reveals the text.

The result is a simple idea: a dense field of data becomes readable through one small gesture. Full size is the front door.

03 · Accessibility

The page respects reduced-motion preferences by keeping the field still and showing the headline clearly from the start. A higher-contrast setting also removes the extra layers that could make the text harder to read.

The interaction is an enhancement, not something people need in order to understand the page.

04 · Why I keep it playful

I have hidden an easter egg on my personal sites for years, changing it each time to fit the site. This version uses the Konami code to send the field flying outward and reveal “Hire me, plz” in the middle of the page.

It is a small joke, but it is also part of how I think about creativity. Staying playful makes room for unexpected ideas, and sometimes the most memorable parts of a project come from experimenting without a practical reason.
